Fax View Features

  • Study CRF pages may be transmitted from the clincial sites using ordinary office fax machines, digital internet fax machines, or as PDF or TIFF email attachments.
  • Intelligent character recognition (ICR) software scans each CRF page and completes as many of the data fields as possible.
  • Staff at the coordinating center check the ICR results and correct and complete data fields as needed.
  • Full page side by side review of CRF and data is possible on large screens.
  • Features designed to aid complete and accurate data entry include:
    • field status color coding (red=illegal or missing, yellow=optional)
    • field level help messages displayed at bottom of the screen
    • edit checks on record and field entry and exit
  • Meta-data can be associated with each data field including:
    • queries created by study management staff or edit checks
    • reasons written in the margins of a CRF page to explain unusual values
    • missing value codes (for non-essential fields only)
  • When the review is complete the data record is saved in the study database with status 'Final' if the record is complete and status 'Incomplete' or 'Pending' if the record contains invalid values or outstanding data queries.
